Periodontics
Periodontics is responsible for treating the tissues that support the tooth such as the gum, bone and periodontal ligament. Gum disease is one of the most common diseases and affects more than 90% of the population at least at some stage of their lives.
The disease starts with inflammation of the gums and this initial stage is known as gingivitis, later if it is not treated the gum detaches from the tooth and the disease progresses, causing bone loss due to the accumulation of tartar on the root of the tooth, this is known as periodontitis.
